Rising Tide of Color is Lothrop Stoddard's calm, epic Cassandra-like prophesy of doom. It was written in 1920, just as the ink was drying on the impossible peace settlements made in Paris in 1919 and it provides enormous historical insights into the tensions of the inter-war wars.
Stoddard writes in an era delightfully free of Political Correct chains so his ideas are clearer and far more logical than what people like George W. Bush or George Will say when discussing international problems-especially when dealing with problems involving non-white people.
The fundamental argument of Lothrop Stoddard is that the enormous demographic expansion of Europeans in general and Anglo-Saxons in particular has slowed and the races of the Third World are rapidly gaining demographic momentum. Additionally, these Third World People (he doesn't call them Third World-they're colored) are colonized by Europeans but their colonized situation is temporary.
Most of the book deals with the threat posed by Japan. In the 1920's Japan was very ably using the "colored" angle as a gimmick to gain Imperial Possessions from European Colonies in the Pacific and in China. Americans had deep interests in China at the time, such as the Protestant Missionary inspired China Lobby as well as other business interests. Americans also held other important colonies in the Pacific such as Guam and the Philippines. As a result, Stoddard looked at the situation and determined that America was on a crash course for conflict with expansionist Japan. Stoddard's alarms regarding Japan are 21 years before Pearl Harbor and read like prophesy.
One supposes if Stoddard was French, he'd be focused on Algeria, or far off Indo-China, but as an American he is focused on the Japanese peril.
Stoddard discusses the expanding Third World populations and the different dilemmas which they pose to European empires. Stoddard shows that the First World War is a disaster for Western Civilization and implores whites everywhere to realize that 1920 is Zero Hour...whites need to focus on the external non-white threat, not internal problems in Europe. Of course, that advice when un-heeded...
Despite being nearly a century old, this book can be read for clues as to how to deal with the world situation as it is today.
I was interested in this book simply because Stoddard is referenced in one of Scott Fitzgerald's books. . . I think The Great Gatsby. It's a short reference, something like "what do you think of this fellow Stoddard" with a little more about the end of the white race. I found that curious so I made an effort to find and read the book. It's not a rant from a eugenicist but rather about geopolitics. Stoddard begins by explaining that in the early 20th century most of the world is controlled by Europeans and Anglo-Americans. But, he realizes that these white folks are greatly outnumbered in the world and that it should be expected non-whites will not be kept under white rule. Stoddard feels that the first parts of the white ruled earth to be peeled off will be the Asians. He is very complimentary of the abilities of the Chinese and Japanese. Later the inhabitants of South America and Africa will leave white rule. His observations of Latin America are right on based on today's news. In parts of South America he sees the Indian population taking control from the very small European minority just exactly what is happening in places like Bolivia today.
As for Europe and Anglo-America he sees a worse case where the white populations are simply overwhelmed by "peaceful penetration" of especially north and Sub-Saharan Africans. With that he sees a loss of western civilization. It seems that for a book written roughly 90 years ago he had some things pretty well reasoned out. Let me emphasize that the book is not a racist rant but mostly geopolitical. He is, however, an advocate of the contributions given us by western civilization. Some folks may find that distasteful. Still, a book worth reading.
This is a factual book written a 100 years ago suggesting what will probably soon happen to members of the white race.
It would actually be very good if someone could undertake a new study and give a status update.

It's a classic read that has influenced so many great minds. I believe this book is actually referenced in the Great Gatsby, a time when people were fearless to bring up the subject. You will get many haters that judge this book by their agenda, but not as a standalone work.
